Your institution is a vital economic engine at the local, state, and national level — generating jobs, paying wages, and supporting opportunities for business and community development. A new AAMC report shows that, in 2019, member medical schools and teaching hospitals represented approximately 3.23% of the U.S. GDP and generated more than 7.1 million jobs (equivalent to 4.4% of the labor force) nationwide.
We developed a toolkit to help your institution share information about the role it plays in the economic health of your community. Here are five ways–included in the toolkit–that you can help share this message:
- Post to social media: use the sample messages and graphics provided to create your own content, and use #EconomicImpact
- Issue a press release: use the template provided and the local data found under “State Profiles” in the report
- Share the data with policymakers: coordinate with your institution’s government relations/advocacy department
- Include in executive communications: use the data to inform speeches given by your institution’s leadership to alumni, donors, community groups, and other key audiences
- Get creative: develop your own methods of sharing the data, use our key messages document for a rundown of the report takeaways
