As I step into my new role as Chief Human Resources Officer at the AAMC, I'm incredibly inspired by the dedication and passion of our community. Leadership in academic medicine isn't just about steering the ship – it's about empowering individuals, fostering growth, and driving positive change. I believe that true leadership lies in collaboration, transparency, and empathy. Together, we can navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and chart a course toward a brighter future for academic medicine.
Rabbi Yonason Goldson, who speaks and writes on the subject of ethics in business, says that asking these 3 questions can inspire great leadership:
- What needs to be done?
- What can be done?
- How much can I do?
Many who study effective leaders agree that they usually have this skill in common: they ask great questions of their teams.
What questions do you ask of your teams? Or what insightful or inspirational questions have leaders asked of you? Perhaps something that helped your team think through an issue critically?
I'm excited to embark on this journey with all of you, and I look forward to learning and growing together as we continue to serve and lead the academic medicine community.
