Earlier this month the AAMC submitted comments to the Department of Health and Human Services in response to the agency’s draft scientific integrity policy.
While the nuances of this policy issue may be wonky to some, here’s why this is important to everyone in our community: the draft policy includes specific provisions intended to prohibit political interference, ensure the independent review of scientific activities, and facilitate the free flow of scientific information.
The draft policy is the final step in a years-long policymaking process resulting from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s broad efforts to restore trust in government through scientific integrity.
The AAMC has been very encouraged by these efforts and has been pleased to participate in comments along the way.
The community also has an opportunity to participate in the process right now, as the NIH has additionally released a draft scientific integrity policy. AAMC will be responding to the agency, and we encourage member institutions to weigh in as well! Please reply here to this discussion or email me at adev@aamc.org with any questions or comments.
