As the academic medicine community continues to examine the broad impact of the SCOTUS ruling on race-conscious admissions, I am equally concerned about the potential impact on health services research. I shared some of these concerns in a blog post for AcademyHealth recently. In my own experience as a researcher, I have seen individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds raise research questions that otherwise may have been overlooked by teams looking to improve the science and delivery of health care. I believe the ruling will have a potentially negative impact on our ability to formulate and answer research questions that benefit the health of all.
