Tip Tuesday: How to demonstrate leadership skills in a job interview

Judith Humphrey, author of leadership and communication books such as Speaking as a Leader, suggests 4 ways that anyone can demonstrate leadership skills in a job interview:

    1. Have a leader's mindset. Think beyond hierarchies. Come to the interview ready to inspire-not just inform-the interviewer. Don't be afraid to show visionary thinking.
    2. Script yourself as a leader. Be prepared to tell your own story. In addition to preparing answers to questions you know you will be asked, prepare to ask your own questions.
    3. Use the language of leadership. Use language that shows your conviction about the job and your readiness for it. Use collaborative words (we, our team vs. I, myself).
    4. Have a leader's presence. Use your body language, voice, eye contact to show your warmth and enthusiasm.

Do you have any additional tips to add to this list? Have you seen a candidate demonstrate leadership skills in other ways during interviews?
