Scholars Cornel West, PhD, and Robert George, JD, DPhil—friends despite stark differences—spoke to attendees at Learn Serve Lead earlier this month about how the country might be able to return to civil discourse. If Americans are willing to be vulnerable and humble.
They suggest that people on all sides of the civic divide:
- make themselves vulnerable to being challenged on their convictions
- adopt the humility to accept that they might be wrong
- respect the humanity of those who disagree with them
Read more about what West and George believe is necessary to return to the lost art of “listening to another person with a different point of view in a truth-seeking spirit with a willingness to learn.”
