On 2 recent episodes of the Academic Medicine Podcast, journal editors share their recommendations for designing and reporting research.

The first episode is focused on qualitative research. The editors make recommendations for getting started, choosing a methodology, and effectively using published guidelines. They also dispel common myths around writing up and publishing qualitative research.

The second episode is focused on quantitative research. The editors share tips for success and flaws to avoid around designing your study, using descriptive and inferential statistics, and analyzing and presenting your data.

While the advice in these episodes comes from the editors of Academic Medicine, much of it also applies to designing and reporting research for other journals and publications.

Featured on these episodes are Academic Medicine deputy editors Bridget O'Brien, PhD, and Colin West, MD, PhD; statistical editor Yoon Soo Park, PhD; and assistant editors @Gustavo Patino, MD, PhD, @Jonathan Amiel, MD, Megan Brown, MBBS(H), PhD, and Laura Hirshfield, PhD.
