On Nov. 4, trauma surgeons Joseph Sakran, MD, of Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Chethan Sathya, MD, of Northwell Health, joined violence-prevention expert Ashley Hink, MD, MPH, on the stage at Learn Serve Lead 2023: The AAMC Annual Meeting to discuss the public health crisis of gun violence.

They shared personal experiences, public policy insights, and guidance for health care leaders hoping to help prevent firearm deaths. Read more about this conference session.

The AAMC believes that gun violence is a public health issue. There are many good resources here in our virtual community's Gun Safety Resource Bundle. If you know of additional resources that should be included, please suggest them.

We also recommend this excellent summary of hospital-based violence intervention programs, which offer supportive services like employment counseling, mentoring, and mental health counseling to people recovering from gun violence.
