A survey conducted by The Chronicle of Higher Education and Huron found that 78 percent of leaders said their campus had received fewer applications for open jobs in the last year. The Chronicle is calling it a "staffing crisis" in higher ed. Retaining satisfied, engaged faculty is a challenge. It seems that recruiting new faculty and staff to higher education is especially difficult right now. If this is a challenge that you are facing at your institution, consider these AAMC resources that may help:

    1. ‌Use AAMC CareerConnect to find well qualified candidates. The CareerConnect Job Flash email puts open positions in front of thousands of potential applicants every month. CareerConnect also offers employers access to promote open positions across diversity-oriented networks and across a broad range of industries.
    2. Use the recommendations, tips, and checklists published in Recruiting: Proven Search and Hiring Practices for the Best Talent. While this AAMC series was originally intended to help leaders recruit for department chair positions, the information is relevant and useful when recruiting for other positions in higher education as well.
    3. Refer to the AAMC GWIMS (Group on Women in Medicine and Science) Equity Recruitment Toolkit for guidance on equitable recruitment for open positions, as well as recruiting for committees and speakers.
