Wellness Wednesday: 5 minutes to practice gratitude (Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!)

The season of gratitude is upon us. It can be hard to focus on giving thanks if you are busy trying to get your work caught up, family drama, or just adulting, in general. Take a few minutes to ground yourself in gratitude, as we prepare for thanksgiving (here in the US). Not sure how to start practicing gratitude? Psychologist Dacher Keltner guides you through a practice that can help you see the good things in your life that you might otherwise overlook.

We wish you all a happy and healthy thanksgiving. We give thanks for each of you and the contributions you make to the greater academic medicine community.

During this season of gratitude I just wanted to highlight these great resources that @Penny Schnarrs shared last year. This is such as good list. Research shows that grateful people tend to be happier and healthier.

And because it's Tip Tuesday, I'll add one more gratitude tip: My son and I recently did a community service project with Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages and letters to military and first responders. We wrote thank you cards to veterans and enlisted service members that will be included in care packages. The experience of taking some time to reflect on and thank others for their service was deeply gratifying and rewarding for us. I highly recommend checking out the "volunteer from anywhere" opportunities that Operation Gratitude offers, especially if you are looking to do a service opportunity with a group.
