To help demonstrate the contributions that medical schools, teaching hospitals, and health systems make to the nation’s health, the AAMC has launched Academic Medicine: What starts here saves lives, a sustained public awareness campaign aimed at the federal policy community.

Over the coming months, we will highlight academic medicine’s leading role in medical research and discovery, medical education and training, health care delivery, and community collaboration. Our campaign intends to strengthen awareness in the lead-up to a new congress in January 2023 and beyond.

Join us in sharing with policymakers the critical role that academic medicine plays in conducting the medical research that leads to the diagnostics, treatments, cures, and preventative strategies that improve the health of patients and communities nationwide.

We thank the member institutions that have joined us thus far. And we are especially grateful for the collaboration and commitment from the communications and advocacy teams at AAMC member institutions who are partnering with us to amplify this effort by sharing the campaign messages and highlighting the specific contributions of their own institutions.

I look forward to our engagement together in this national effort to position academic medical centers as essential institutions to America’s health.
